Dante Adventure – Moving In

teddy-189831_640There was a noise again. It was a sound that was not supposed to be there. But it was there. And it was freaking us out. You see, it all began early this morning right after Gracie had left us all alone. Yes, she does this thing to us just to test whether or not mischief will find us. And indeed it has.

The wall made a noise again. There were voices outside somewhere, possibly planning on making more noises. Skipper and I had come to the conclusion that the two were associated. Mostly because they’d showed up at the same time this morning.

Now it was past our third snack time right before lunch, and the noises had increased their volume. There was banging and shuffling and scraping, and our walls sounded like they were going to cave in on us. Things were getting serious now.

“What are we going to do?” Skipper barked.

“There’s nothing we can do,” I barked back (we are trying to be as loud as possible), “Whatever is out there will eventually get in here… and then we’ll have them right where we want them.”

“But I don’t want them in here!”

“Too bad, they’re coming in here and we’re giving them all your toys first,” I barked.

“Why mine?”

“So they don’t take mine too,” I explained.

“Why don’t we just give them yours so they won’t take mine,” Skipper argued.

“Because my toys belong to me. I can’t give my toys away. It’s so much easier just to give them yours.”

“That makes no sense at all!”

“Yes it does, you just need to think about it a little more.”

Skipper thought about it a little more and still came to the same conclusion. I left it at that though, since I am purely convinced that my toys are way more valuable.

Amongst our arguments, the noise had continued to echo though the walls, getting louder as things happened beyond. It was on and off for a while, keeping us racing back and forth along the wall where the chair and table were, just to make sure no one was poking through without us knowing about it.

But eventually the sounds finally faded away and things were calm for a while. The voices outside were still there though, barking about things and probably plotting on how to make more noise. Perhaps they were just taking a break from all the ruckus. I can assure you that making a ruckus really takes it out of you, and it’s a wonder how they’d gone on for as long as they did.

That’s when the sound came. A very familiar sound indeed. It was a bark and a woof and yippers. I knew exactly what they meant.

We have a new neighbor who wants to play…
