Dante Adventure – The Dinner

steak-597949_640Skipper wasn’t taking “no” for an answer. He was bound and determined to get a bite of Gracie’s dinner. We had been waiting all afternoon for the eats and now we cant even participate. So despite the delicious smells (oh if only you could smell it now), we were banished from the table where our friend was presently sharing her meal with her new friend.

Yuppers, a new friend that is a really cool guy and all, but this sort of puts a spot on his record for the record. At least he’s not some other dog or worse… a cat. I don’t know if we could handle sharing our friend’s food with some other pup or pet or even a bird.

Despite the distance between us and them, we had not stopped sniffing and hoping for them to call us over. I knew they could see us, but they were pretending to ignore us. And it seemed that with each bite, they were getting better at it.

Skipper howled, “I’m starving!”

This did not work. In fact, it only made things worse.

Gracie glared at us, and told us to go eat our own food. We already did that earlier, which is why we were so hungry now. But try explaining that to them.

So we tried inching into the room, but we were immediately caught and turned back the way we came. While they did not appear to be watching us, they sure were quick to pick up on our approach. They were watching us, I just know it.

“Can we join you yet?” I begged.

Gracie shook her head in that “absolutely not” fashion of hers and then went back to conversing with her new friend.

“What if we just sniff around the table and look for crumbs,” I begged. “I promise we won’t bother you one tiny bit.”

There were many more rejections before Skipper and I huffed into a slump on the floor and just watched the scene for a better opportunity. This was not done patiently though. Anxious Skipper rolled around and chewed his paws while whining.

The bellies grumbled and the saliva dripped until it was annoying. But every time we tried to inch into the room, we were immediately in trouble. Gracie was watching like a hawk. I couldn’t even look at them without feeling her staring me down with utter suspicion.

Then our opportunity came. Gracie was rummaging through the kitchen cabinets in search of the Cat’s Up stuffs (they call it that because it’s up where only the cat can reach), but she couldn’t find it. So her guest got up to help, and the food was left all alone on the table.

All alone.

So we decided to keep it company. You know, keep that food warm before it gets too cold. As we scarfed down the goods, we were suddenly interrupted by the return of Gracie and her friend. As you would suppose, we were in trouble. Oh yeah. But it was worth it. No wonder they didn’t want to share!
