Dog Journal – Entry 105: Bedtime

animal-1853834_640When your friend is asleep, sometimes things can get sort of boring. I know there’s been a few times where I wasn’t in the mood for a sleep, but my pal insisted that it was bedtime. Which wasn’t as bad as saying it was bath time, but I really wasn’t ready for sleeps.

Needless to bark, I was quickly getting bored just hanging around with nothing to do. But after some quiet thinking, I came up with a few ideas to keep me entertained while my pal slumbered.

I noticed with the house mostly dark, it’s easy to find funny smells. They sort of stick out better for some reason. You just have to watch out that you don’t run into the wall or something if you decide to investigate. Like take for instance, I actually found an old bone that I’d forgotten all about because it was tucked behind the dresser. And that alone kept me busy for a while.

You may notice that it’s easier to hear too. In fact, you really need to listen for certain sounds like your friend getting up to find out if you’re into mischief. So if you’re in mischief, better get out of it fast.

Also, you may notice that your friend snores and talks in their sleep. Sometimes you can whisper in their ear and make them hungry for a midnight snack. Then all you do is follow them and take note that they always eat messy when it’s night time, so the pick’ns are great.

But remember, no exercising.  This definitely wakes up your pal and then they’re all upset whining. Luckily, they can’t really find you in the dark so you might get away with it. But if the lights come on, you’d better pretend it was anyone or anything but you.

Of course, always remember that as a dog, you’re on patrol. So it’s not really that bad to be alert when your pal is snoozing. It’s a good opportunity to remind your friend that you’re making your home a safer place. After all, we can’t have any critters sneaking in to snag all those delicious snacks.
