Dog Journal – Entry 114: Spring Cleaning

dog-1251576_640There’s something about being a dog that does not entail much cleaning. It’s sort of like we just put things in places and that’s where they go until we need them again. No reason to pick it up because you’re just going to use it again later.

But peoples are not always like that. They like things in their place, like making the bed and folding towels and put the pillows back on the sofa and such. So when it comes to your toys, it’s very likely they’re going to do the same thing there.

Unfortunately, this will not go according to your wishes. You’re probably going to wake up from a nice nap and ask where’d your toys go. Back in the box? Hopefully so. But are they all in there? It’s way more likely that some will be missing.  And then what are you going to do? Now you’re wishing that you’d stashed them all under the bed like last time, which is a good idea if your pal likes picking your toys up regularly.

You see, the problem is that your pal is actually throwing stuff away that still could be played with. They look at some of your old toys like they’re just too worn out. But a toy could never be worn out. It’s always good for something, even if it’s just to stuff under the sofa to cover a stashed treat.

Then it really strikes home when all the fluffy decorations you’ve taken time to organized throughout the sofa room are all gone. Cleaned up, probably by vacuum. So all the cool fuzzies will have to be replaced, which means you’re going to need more toys. And probably some new ones if you’re running low on stuffing.

Basically, my best advice is to stash all your toys in secret spots. Don’t just leave them out where your pal could find them and decide to get rid of it. I’ve lost too many cool toys, like my half a rubber chicken and the old deflated football I liked to use to whap my pal when he didn’t want to go for walkies. So what are some of your favorite raggedy toys that just seem to last forever?
