Dog Journal – Entry 118: Slithery Visitors

lizard-2158486_640The other day I was just a minding my own business when I found a new neighbor. Well, I wasn’t really sure if it was moving in or just passing through, but it was in the yard. So let’s just say it was visiting.

I was sniffing through some tall grass in the back yard when we bumped into each other. The long critter was not really chatty. I asked it the usual, like who it was, why was it here and did it know where any food was. It was a  disappointing conversation. One sided really. I did all the barking while it just laid there.

It absolutely did not know any fun games either. In fact, that rascal didn’t even want to play. Every time I got close, it just curled up and made funny noises. I thought maybe it was trying to tell me something, but it wasn’t even close to comprehensible. In fact, now that I think about it, it sort of sounded like water running into the bathtub. Yeah. I don’t like that sound either.

So things went downhill from there. And well, it finally became apparent that the visitor wasn’t friendly and had no intention of being friendly. I wasn’t about to waste anymore time hanging around with such a bummer of a visitor.

So I escorted it around the yard to the nearest exit. And without another word, the visitor was back on it’s way to wherever it was going. The strange thing about all this was the fact that I’d never seen anything like it before. I’ve seen squirrels, birds, ducks, I even thought I saw a lion once, but it turned out to be a really big cat..I mean that cat was huge. But I’ve never seen one of these rather rude rascals before. Have any of you ever come across someone like that that just gives you the cold shoulder?
