Dog Journal – Entry 119: Walking With

woman-892309_640There’s a funny thing I’ve seen during my walks in the park, and it is just plain silly. I’ve seen dogs with their pals out and about, but not really enjoying the park to it’s fullest. This is a silly thing and a waste.

So I need to tell some of you pups out there something. Yeah…take it easy. Going for a walk is just what it sounds like…a walk in the park. It’s supposed to be relaxing and fun. But I’ve seen such serious expressions on pup’s faces as they grow increasingly determined to get somewhere like there’s no tomorrow. I have a remedy for this.

Don’t tug your friend along behind you. Remember that people aren’t super fast like you are, and they always end up moseying along the trail. But that’s because you’re already to your destination…and now you’re supposed to be enjoying the time together.

Instead of dragging your friend and wearing yourself out, walk with your friend. After all, you’re out for a walk “together.” If you were supposed to walk by yourself, you’d be by yourself. Just keep teamwork in mind.

Also, you gotta relax. Don’t act like you’re ready to get your walk over with or something. Your pal might get the wrong idea and take you home early, especially if you’re panting for breath because you’ve been dragging your pal along behind you. Just take it nice and easy and enjoy all the cool smells of the neighborhood. You’re way more likely to find cool stuff that way too, like where the squirrels are stashing their best treasures.

There’s nothing complicated about a simple walk in the park. It’s just that some pups like to make it tough on themselves, and it just seems to me that all the fun goes right out of it when it becomes a chore rather than a fun experience. So you pups out there…walk with your pal.
