Dog Journal – Entry 156: New House

dog-3168564_640There comes a time in a dog’s life, maybe not for every dog, but for some, that you can no longer call your home, home. Yeah, I remember when this happened to us a long time ago. It was really weird at first, but now I can barely remember bouncing on the sofa to see what was cooking in the kitchen.

If you find that everything in the house is being packed up and put in boxes and your pal has less and less weird stuff laying around, you’re probably headed to a new home.

So you’re going to a new home that just doesn’t have the same smells. That’s okay though, you can work on that while your pal is off at work. You’re just gonna have to roll on everything and really make sure you scrub that puppy scent into all the rugs.

New obstacles are going to totally trip you up. Seriously, it took me, well I’m still working on navigating my way around that weird corner over by the tiny room where they keep the dreadful vacuum thing. Still wish they hadn’t brought it with us. I actually thought that’s why we were moving in the first place, but it was probably because of the strange dog in the looking glass that just wouldn’t stop copying me.

And a big reminder: do not forget to bring your best treasures. Yeah, you probably know what I’m talking about here. Every dog has their stash of things littered throughout the home. It’s just the smart thing to do, just in case someone finds one, you’ve still got all the others. Well, it’s time to get them all rounded up and stash them close. I put mine in my box after the blanket was stuffed in there, and no one was ever the wiser.

When I was rounding stuff up though, I actually found that I’d stashed some all around the yard, and ended up having to dig up a few. Just never did figure out where I’d put those rib bones from the summer cookout though. I remember snagging them and then off to the bushes, but they weren’t in there. Oh well, just have to find some new ones.

Which is the really cool thing about a new house… new hiding spots. Now your pal will have to figure out where your treasure is hidden all over again. And I guess as long as you got your buddy everything will be alright. That is the real treasure after all.
