Nixi Adventure – Don’t Follow Mischief

19476946940_d0054c8a40It was a warm day at the new park. Brandon had apparently made a change of plans and taken the pups to a different park. The different route had confused Nixi at first, particularly since it had taken them past the regular park and towards the place where they put the “shamoo” on you get you soaking wet. But when they had all arrived at the new location, there was a bark of relief.

Needless to ruff, it was a strange change of scenery, but in a much appreciated way. New sights, new smells floated around, tickling the noses of the whole group. But there was something unique about this place. It had a fence around it. And there were lots of other dogs. New friends?

A crowd of dogs were ready to welcome both Jewel and Nixi, practically blocking the doorway into the park. It took some wrestling on the part of Brandon and other peoples to get the group into the park and out into the open air.

From there, it was fun times. Nixi and Jewel were unleashed to race around the park and explore everything and meet all the new furry noses.

Some of the dogs took off after they’d ruffed a “hello” and continuing their own fun and games. But some were quick to add the new arrivals to join in their games. How could a fun-seeking pup refuse such an offer, so Nixi and Jewel tagged right along.

The game consisted of chase and race. The park provided all the obstacles necessary to make it a challenge, like balance boards and tunnels. Jewel kept misusing the tunnel by jumping up on top to get out of reach. Nixi tried, but couldn’t quite make it all the way up no matter how much of a running start she got.

The game was going good with all the pups barking and carrying on about who was the fastest, but then the smell of food floated into the air. There was a man with a cart full of delicious smelling food making his way along the nearby pathway. Of course, he was kept safe from being overrun by the park’s fence, and not even Jewel could hop up that high.

“Looks like we can’t ask that man for some snackies,” Jewel woofed to their fellow playmates. Nixi sighed and turned to get back to playing their game.

But the other two pups had made other plans. One wiggled under the fence where he’d made a shallow hole and the other was right behind him. “Come ‘on! Let’s get his food!” the sneaky pups invited Jewel and Nixi.

Nixi didn’t want to crawl through the hole in the fence though. The other pups had already wiggled through and were looking back, inviting Nixi to follow them. Jewel stuck by her friend, agreeing with Nixi’s concerns that something bad might happen if they left the park. After all, their friends were still here and they might get lost if Nixi wasn’t there to keep track of them.

Jewel and Nixi watched as the pups chased down the man who wasn’t exactly happy to have surprise customers and tried to protect his food-cart by wooping and hollering and basically just making a silly scene.

That’s when the pup’s peoples showed up running along walkway beyond the fense. And they didn’t seem too happy about what their mischievous pups were doing. And it sounded like the playtime at the park was over for them. Too bad. It looks like that sort of mischief just doesn’t pay off.

Nixi and Jewel looked back at the rest of the park. Plenty of other pups were still playing and having fun, and all of them probably waiting to make some new friends.
