Nixi Adventure – Puppies Everywhere

rottweiler-1785760_640Brandon dropped Nixi onto the soft grass of the room. There were all manner of playthings here, from fuzzy toys to obstacle courses. It was the coolest park that Nixi had ever seen, except that it was missing real grass. It was that fuzzy kind that just doesn’t smell right…it was missing the funny scent of leaves and squirrels.

Nixi started investigating, searching for some mischief that was willing to play. That’s when she noticed all the puppies. A whole mess of puppies. Not a one of them could have learned to walk just yesterday.

Each puppy stumbled over the other, not really able to decide which direction was the best to travel. One bumbled about, suddenly realizing that her tail was following her, so she decided to chase it instead.

Nixi was perplexed. She’d seen a puppy before, but never a pack of them all together in a herd of total chaos. And it was headed straight for her. And it was not clear what they were going to do when they caught up to her.

Puppies rolled over one another, yipping excitedly as they made their way toward the new arrivals. It wasn’t just Nixi they wanted to meet, but Brandon as well. You see, puppies know that peoples always love to hand out belly rubs. It’s like a built-in knowledge or something.

Nixi tried to get away, but it was to late. The puppies were round about her, hopping and bopping around, trying to get a hold of her tail and ears. There was no escape. There were just to many.

Surrounded and confounded, Nixi and Brandon shuffled amongst the great number of puppies, careful not to squish any paws. Of course, Brandon dished out belly rubs as he inspected some of the squeaky pups, while Nixi sniffed and stirred, trying to find a way out…and that’s when she found one she liked. No reason in particular, just a pup that seemed to be special.

This one puppy in particular had a peculiar trait. He was just as happy as the others, but not as nimble. Plump and a little clumsy, even turning took a moment. He would back up a little and then adjust for the new direction. It even made Brandon laugh a little.

Nudging noses, Nixi greeted the extra fluffy pup and told him to follow her. And to her heart’s merry, the fluffy pup did bound right after her, squeaking happily and eager to play. His paws shuffled as he changed direction to keep up with his new friend.

Nixi rounded a corner and stopped to watch the puppy try to navigate the obstacle. When the pup paused (pawzed) to maneuver his hind quarters to follow after properly, Nixi returned to nudge the pup around the corner. The puppy made a grin and hopped around, scooting and ready to practicing this new technique.

After another round through some obstacles, the plump pup was scooting around just fine, though with a little silliness to his stride. But just as happy as could be, he followed his new friend all the way back to meet up with Brandon.

“Look, he follows me everywhere,” Nixi barked excitedly, “so can we keep him?”
