Nixi Adventure – Puppy Sitter

pillow-232116_640Nixi pounced around on the bed, circling Shuffles the puppy. She liked watching her new friend roll around in sheer excitement, which kept the entire day entertaining. Even with Brandon out and about running his errands, Nixi had a full schedule of fun.

Shuffles finally had enough of the rolling around and decided to attack the pillows. It just seemed like a good idea at the time and maybe the pillows just needed attacking. Regardless, the pillows were attacked and pulled from their place and tossed to the floor.

Nixi stopped pouncing and started protecting the pillows. She’d learned a long time ago that defluffing cushions and pillows would get you in trouble really fast. But trying to explain this to the young puppy while still safeguarding the pillows wasn’t easy. Shuffles simply thought it was part of a new game they could play.

“Stop it,” Nixi firmly woofed, trying not to sound to mean.

That’s when Shuffles started crying. Well, it was more like a howl than a cry. But it did sound like a cry since he was a puppy after all. But after Nixi licked his face a few times, he was right back at his game. You see, a puppy loves mischief and knows how to dish out the tricks. So with Nixi distracted by his howls, he managed to snag another pillow and start roughing it up.

Nixi pounced on the pillow, only to realize that there wasn’t any bed under it. She fell through to the floor, dragging the pillow and Shuffles the puppy down on top of her. Then the covers followed after, piling up on top of everything.

Shuffles wiggled out from under the toppings and grinned while Nixi struggled to find her way out of all the mess…while trying to figure out what to do about all of the mess. Brandon was sure to be home any time soon, and when he found out what had happened, no one was getting treats tonight.

Before Nixi could do much of anything, the sneaky puppy had bounded out of the room and was out of sight. There was no telling what sort of mess he was planning next, and Nixi was starting to feel a little less in control of the situation.

Out from under the pile of fluffy blanket and pillow, Nixi raced after the puppy, hoping that nothing else was being demolished. It was too late though. Shuffles had discovered that tugging on the legs of chairs was not only fun, but it made really cool noises too. One chair had already toppled over and he was working on the second when Nixi entered the kitchen.

“Stop it!” Nixi pleaded.

Shuffles plopped to the floor and started howling again, his whiskers twitching as he pawed and stretched as if begging Nixi to lighten up. It was working too. And not long after the howls had begun was Nixi cleaning the whiskers of her puppy friend, coaxing him to calm down.

And when the timing was right, the sneaky little rascal was up and dashing towards the next room to find out what mess he could make this time. And sure enough, by the time Nixi had caught up to the slippery pup, the curtains were being attacked without any mercy.

And when Nixi demanded that the nonsense stop, Shuffles teared up and made his best puppy face ever and howled out a sad tune.

“That’s it, I’m not falling for it this time!” Nixi ruffed.

But she fell for it. You see, when a puppy howls and whines, it’s almost impossible to be angry in any way shape or form. And without another thought, Nixi bounded over to the howling puppy and started trying to calm him down.

That’s when the front door opened and Brandon strolled into the room. His big grin quickly faded as he saw the mess that had been dished out while he was gone. It had probably been less than twenty minutes, just enough time to get to the store and pick up some milk, and already things had been turned upside down.

“What have you rascals done?!” Brandon demanded.

Then both Nixi and Shuffles started howling, crying and trying to make a scene. It’s worked before, why not again?
