Nixi pawed at the slump of fur on the floor. It wasn’t doing any good though. The furball wasn’t moving. Jewel tried her best to scoot the rascally slouch from his spot, but it wasn’t working either. Nothing was working.
And Shuffles was enjoying every moment of it. He wasn’t exactly the biggest puppy, but he was heavy. And he knew how to use every bit of it to get his way. You see, earlier there had been a dispute regarding who the treat belonged to, and he had settled it. It wasn’t necessarily his, but it was now out of sight and out of mind. Well, it wasn’t out of mind. Everyone knew where it was, they just couldn’t get to it.
Nixi pleaded with her pal, but he wasn’t budging. Jewel tried to bribe him by sharing it, but that didn’t work at all. Shuffles knew it was all his, he just had to play the waiting game. And he was slouched so comfortably upon his investment that no one was going to be able to move him.
Jewel tried to roll Shuffles over with her paws, prying and pawing steadily but it was like trying to get jello to stop returning to it’s original form. The fluffy puppy would just slump right back into his spot, comfy as could be and grinning a huge grin.
Obviously the others were going to need a plan. Nixi and Jewel couldn’t think of any way to move the slouch, but they might could come up with a plan to get him to move himself. Promises of treats came up, along with all the food in the kitchen suddenly disapeared right down to there was a really cool bug in the hallway that needed to be investigated.
None of these ideas worked. Shuffles just slouched right comfortably in his spot, confident that he was the winner of the game. But it wasn’t over yet. Nixi and Jewel weren’t giving up that easily.
Out of sight and sound, the pair came up with a plan that was sure to work. Up until this point, they’d been paying attention to the fluffy pup. But every dog knows that the lack of attention is super boring. Very boring. Unbearably boring. It had to work.
Nixi ran and hid under the bed while Jewel slipped comfortably into the sofa cushions. They waited. It might take some time, but it had to work. A pup just needed to be patient.
It did take a while, but eventually Shuffles got bored too. He looked around the room to see if he was being watched, but all was well…at least he thought so. Finally, confident that he’d won the game, he rolled over and scooped up the last half of the chewy treat and began gnawing on it. Victory was delicious.
That’s when the others pounced out of their hiding spots. Nixi and Jewel raced towards the pup ready to claim the prize for themselves. But it wouldn’t be as easy as stealing a treat from a puppy. Nope.
The race was on. Shuffles took off around the sofa, then dashed into the kitchen. Two laps around the apartment later and the others were still trying to catch the sneaky little rascal.
And that’s when reinforcements arrived. Brandon entered in through the hallway to see what all the commotion was about. And scooping up the young pup, he plucked the remote control from his mouth and demanded to know who it belonged to.
Suddenly no one wanted to be the winner of the game. And Shuffles returned to his slouched position claiming not to know a thing.
