Rocky Adventure – Dog Shopping

dog-30697_640Izzy was holding us up. He didn’t want to get in the car. Even after I’d explained to him that we were not going to get fur cuts or visit with the doc, he still didn’t believe us. It wasn’t until Debbie had wrestled with the rascal that we were finally able to start our journey.

You see, this was no ordinary journey. It isn’t every day that a dog gets to go shopping. I knew where we were going. It was the cool place. The one where “dogs are allowed.” I can’t tell you how many times I get turned away, despite my awesome cuteness, but this place is the cool exception.

I peeked out the window while Izzy continuously argued with our friends about how uncool it is to play tricks on dogs and take them places they promised not to take them too. While he was nervous, I’d recognized all the signs. You see, if we were going anywhere else, we’d have papers and things that go along with a visit to the doc. Not today though. Just the leashes.

The travel seemed to take longer than normal. But that was probably just because Izzy was whining about every turn that seemed suspicious. We eventually did reach out destination, and it wasn’t soon enough.

When Izzy found out where we were actually going, he was super excited. There was no calming him down, so putting on his leash made time seem like it dragged on forever. When we finally did get moving,  the fun began.

The doors slid open and we entered into the store, sniffing all the smells of delicious treats and seeing all the toys begging to be tossed about and played with. We even saw the cool critters that wiggled and ran in wheels like funny fuzzballs desiring the attention of any that passed by to wonder in curiosity.

As for us dogs, we wanted to see where the toys were. So we dragged our pals in that direction, and despite all the wrestling, we made it there. And there were tons of toys. All sorts of toys. Toys I didn’t even know what to do with.

“Which one is it? Which one do we play with?” Izzy wondered.

“I don’t know…” I woofed. “Just grab one and let’s play!”

One toy was not on Izzy’s agenda though. He immediately knocked a box full of toys on the floor and started squeaking as many as he possibly could. Many squeaks later, the box was picked back up and and most of the toys put back in their place. We were left with one each, squeaking as we continued our walk through the store. I was happy, Izzy was happy, but it seemed that our pals were after something more.

We made our squeaky way through the aisles past the fuzzy critters running in their tiny wheels. Eventually, after much squeaking of the toys, we found the comfy beds. So many beds stacked up on top of one another. I must lay in them all. Maybe sniff them a little, just to make sure they were mine.

Both Izzy and I dropped our toys and started sniffing the fluffy beds to see which one was the most “comfiest.” That is a word by the way. It’s in the dog-tionary. Of course, we both agreed on one that was the best, which led to dispute. Who was going to get the bed?

“This bed isn’t big enough for the both of us,” Izzy woofed as we both tried to find a place to get comfy.

“You’re right, it’s just enough for me!” I woofed back as I tucked tight into the corner to avoid being scooted out of the bed.

I held on firmly as Izzy tried to wrestle me out. After a few battles of pawing and wrestling, I hopped out and turned back to my pal for an answer.

The old man picked up a small bed that looked like a bowl. I eyed it carefully and realized there wasn’t any room for Izzy to even try to fit in that little snugly spot made just for me. It would be impossible. Of course, Izzy saw it too, and wanted it. But it didn’t do him any good. He hopped out and tried to lay on the bed, rolling off onto the floor like a silly fluff ball.

I, on the other paw, fit perfectly into the little space. I could peek out and see everything while feeling nice and comfy in my bed. Warm too. Oh yes. It was the Goldilocks of beds. Just right for me. It was all mine.
