Nixi Adventure – Catdog, Master of Disguise

cats-1517642_640Nixi was baffled by such a thing. Never before had she been in a situation like this before. In fact, it was so strange, she was locked up deep in thought, trying to decide what to do next. This was accompanied by a face that displayed the wonder that was swirling within.

Shuffles was not baffled nor was he stopped by such a thing. It was strange and never before had he encountered someone like this, but he wasn’t about to let that stop him from a rolling around on the floor and shedding everywhere.

Both pups sat on the grass, keeping watch of the scene to be sure and miss nothing that happened. While strange, it was deeply interesting. However, this did not seem to interest their other friend in the least who was currently sitting on the bench, reading his paper and sipping the morning’s coffee.

The kitten made another woofing sound, trying desperately to mimic Shuffles. There was much rolling around and then a bound and a bounce to make sure she had the attention of the dogs. That’s exactly what she wanted, a nice pleasant audience to help practice her dog skills.

“Woof woof woof bark bork arf,” the cat meowed. Well, it wasn’t exactly meowed, but it was a far more understandable than her duck impressions. This was followed by much rolling and bouncing around to really drive home the authenticity.

“Who does this cat think she is?” Nixi woofed to Shuffles.

Shuffles rolled over and pattered the air, “I no know…maybe she’s the dog too?”

The cat nodded enthusiastically, wiggling her body to make her tail look like it was wagging. Where she’d learned such things was a mystery, but her great talent was definitely showing now.

“Should we play with the ball?” the kitten meowed, returning to a more common demeanor as she pawed the belly that was up in the air.

Shuffles froze when the things changed back to normal. His back wiggle was halted by the tiny paws that had rested on him and he was again staring right at the strange kitten. This confused him deeply and once again, it was time for him to chase the cat.

And all around the prickly bush, the puppy chase the kitten. This went on until the cat disappeared into the bush and began making trying to bark again. The sounds were close enough to persuade the pursuing pup though and Shuffles was back to his calm self again.

“Where’d the doggy go?” Shuffles woofed, looking to Nixi for answers.

Nixi just shook her ears from side to side, unable to tell who was more entertaining at this point. Occasionally she’d glance at Brandon for some answers, but he was still thoroughly entertained by the comics section of the paper.

The borking continued as the cat meowed a very nice song for Shuffles. Things were calm again and the kitten had emerged from the bush to bounce around and otherwise entertain the pups.

“You know you’re not a dog, right?” Nixi woofed.

“Of course I am the doggy,” the kitten meowed back, scratching behind her ear and rolling over to mimic what her friend’s do.

“Then you should be able to do this,” Nixi ruffed and began digging under the bush.

The kitten began furiously pawing at the dirt, barely moving the surface while Nixi was already discovering worms and bugs and other neat things. The match was set, but the kitten wasn’t able to make a dent in the dirt. Her paws just weren’t made for digging.

“Woooaawooo!” the kitten cried. “I can’t do it.”

“It’s a-right,” Shuffles nudged the kitten out of the way. “Let me show you how to win like a good dog.”

Nixi was digging and Shuffles was digging and the kitten was chasing the bugs. A couple passing by stared for a moment, bewildered, but shrugged it off when all appeared to be under control. After all, the had their good friend Brandon watching them to make sure everyone was playing nice.
